    However >>>>SPOILER ALERT >>>>>>>SPOILER ALERT >>>SPOILER ALERT
    SPOILER ALERT >>>

Broken Steel takes place after the events of the Main FALLOUT 3 .
So just reading through the product description gives a lot of the
    central plot away.
I'm not certain as to whether we need to have finished the main game first. Broken Steel is more a separate parallel storyline than the add in quests
    of the 1st 2 DLC's.

The initial May 5th mess-up PC release will soon sort itself out in the
    next few
    days..
The German Lang. version seems to be out OK. (late May 6th)

No, you won't have to as it leads directly on from the conclusion of the original quest. I can't say much more than that without spoiling it for
others. If you have finished the game already you can just play through with the new DLC from your latest save. This is how I understand it anyway.

You do have to finish the main game for this to become available to play.
Tho MUI there are 2 extra side quests added to the main game.

I wonder if the release of these pretty substantial DLC extra bits
means that there will not be a big full scale expansion ?
I'd best forget Broken Steel as my likely hood of ever finishing F3 are
    just over zero.

I've only played a litle of it but I'm not overly impressed. Early
choices seem really limited. I tried joining that water-raider gang
but nothing seems to be happening. I found Fawkes alive out by Ravens
Rock and it's seems indestructable now. What happened to the modified
    FEV?

I didn't like the OCs main quest and so far it feels more of the same.

I'm really looking forward to it, but it's only available on Games for
Windows Live currently. I wonder how long the exclusivity contract is.
If it shows up on Steam, I would buy in a heartbeat.
Finding anything on Games for Windows Live is terrible. No search, no
prices until you click "Purchase", and you have to use "points"
    instead of USD.

Since it only takes an hour or so to complete the main quest (OK, slight exaggeration, but you *can* do it in a few hours easily) I wouldn't
write that off unless you are bored with the game.

Ditto for me. Many other "old" classics to play, all of which
genuniely get a new lease of life when played on a modern machine.

FO3 Expansions: Preferably on a DVD with only on-disk copy-protection
(or none at all..), no tie-in with Winslows Dead (yuk, grrr...) or
Steam (yuk, yuk, grrr...) and at $19.99 or less for all 3 expansions.

Thanks so much for the info. Will wait to see whether it still has
some obnoxious DRM tie-in with Games for Winslows. User-feedback (er, early-adopter guinea-pig feedback) is always very useful.....

I will probably wait until all 3 are on an expansion-set at a

After installing the latest patch, 1.5, mine no longer works. I gave
up on the auto-patcher, and had to first manually install the latest
Live for Windows, and then manually install the patch. Then none of
my old saves would load, so I gave up and started a new game, which
then locked up before I could leave Vault 101. A shame, as I was

I'm not one of those people who say they're swearing off Bethesda, but

No problems here with it. I had updated the Live softwware a few days before the release of Broken Steel and downloaded the latest 1.5 patch through the game. Even my oldest saves still work from when I was still in Vault 101.

Sorry to hear all that. One of the great virtues of downloadable
games/content was supposed to be their trouble-free freedom from
physical media...........pfft...... Or the poisoning of the
single-player component of retail games such as GTA4 and FO3 with
    mandatory on-line hooks.

Between DRM/limited-installs/game-locked email accounts and passwords, downloadable games or 'umbilically-attached' downloadable content is
only for the casual player. Any dedicated gamer interested in building
    up a long-term archive of re-playable single-player classics with
complete freedom as to where and when to install the games had better
look further than Steam, Winslows Live or any other purveyor with
explicit or implicit on-line DRM. I expect that when I BUY a SP game
that I am free to install it whenever and wherever I choose... for as
long as I live... as long as I do not violate the terms of the EULA. I occasionally lend or give away used games to family members. The only
EULA that explicitly prohibits 3rd-party transfer comes from the true
friend of many here..... Valve/Steam. Which is why I possess only 4
Steam games, all bought at "throw-away' bargain sale-prices.
Even with its suffocating DRM, the EULA of Riddick:Dark Athena
legally permits transfer of the original game disks and packaging to a third-party..... not that this is much good with its 3-strike and no-
    revoke current implementation.

After installing the latest patch, 1.5, mine no longer works. I gave

Live for Windows, and then manually install the patch. Then none of
my old saves would load, so I gave up and started a new game, which

I'm not one of those people who say they're swearing off Bethesda, but

Sorry to hear all that. One of the great virtues of downloadable
games/content was supposed to be their trouble-free freedom from
physical media...........pfft...... Or the poisoning of the
single-player component of retail games such as GTA4 and FO3 with
    mandatory on-line hooks.

Between DRM/limited-installs/game-locked email accounts and passwords,
downloadable games or 'umbilically-attached' downloadable content is
only for the casual player.
occasionally lend or give away used games to family members. The only
EULA that explicitly prohibits 3rd-party transfer comes from the true
friend of many here..... Valve/Steam. Which is why I possess only 4
Steam games, all bought at "throw-away' bargain sale-prices.
Even with its suffocating DRM, the EULA of Riddick:Dark Athena
legally permits transfer of the original game disks and packaging to a
third-party..... not that this is much good with its 3-strike and no-
    revoke current implementation.

Besides, you can have most of the satisfaction without any networking - they were in Hellgate and it never occurred to me to care whether anyone else had achieved them before I did.

Talking of Hellgate, I'd love a patch for the single player game that
adds bigger stashes, and some of the multiplayer stuff - anyone know
if there's a mod community, since the company went tits up ?

I've been scouring the web for info related to this too and it looks
like a big NO. There was some mod related activity over at
hellgateguru, but the posts are pretty sporadic. They've managed to
hack items and a few other little things. Even though Flagship went
tits up, the game's rights are still owned by Namco.

    Have a look here:

    http://www.hellgateaus.net/forum/

It's reasonably active with some useful information about hex editing
the single player game. I've had a lot of fun using the information
    from there.

The single player game itself is the subject of a total conversion by
a group of enthusiasts. Whether this ambitious project ever gets to
see the light of day is debatable. But LAN capability and much of the multiplayer content being made available in single player has been
announced as one of the objectives.

I think somebody is also trying to get multiplayer content to work in
the existing single player environment. Apparently much of the content
is already coded into the single player game (larger stash, Stonehenge
    etc).

Hanbitsoft have also recently said that they're interested in re
launching Hellgate: London in the West but "are unable to do so at
    this time".

    I didn't dislike the concept, a 3rd person / 1st person
diablo. Good idea. Nice screenshots and vids too.
Didn't like: the amount of time spent in town running around
selling crap. The size of inventory which just served to exacerbate
the prior problem. The chat system could have used some work. How it
was far too easy and you had to unlock harder modes, and even then
you'd have to wait until higher levels for any challenge. I'd dread
the notion of starting a new character and having to wait forever
before things got interesting, so I didn't. How samey things looked,
adding stonehenge and such later was too late and too slow, and had no
effect on areas other than stonehenge. How incredibly boring the AI
    and enemy abilities were.
Its sad, because all the negatives, as much as they drove me
away from the game and seemed all encompassing while playing, were
things that would be fairly easy to fix, not counting the samey look
of the game. Plus, the game's failure will probably cause the
industry to fear everything associated w/it, including the good ideas
along w/the bad, so god knows how long it'll be before someone tries
    again.
Their other thing, mythos, was a lot more fun, and free, but
it also died w/them, and some korean developer has it now, but they
only post about what they doing w/it . . . in korean, so I have no
idea if its ever gonna see the light of day again. Sad, because the
beta was already in a good working state for the levels/areas they had finished/released, don't think it was too far from bein' done. Not as
good looking as titan quest, but just as or more fun. So many diablo
clones and so few I enjoy, I was pleasantly suprised by mythos, at
least in lower levels which was all I could play in the beta.

I'm playing Titan Quest now - really whetting the appetite for Diablo
    3 :)

Interestingly, TQ runs better under Win 7 than under Win XP.

In XP, generally it runs fine, but there are a few playes where it
slows down unbearably. I had to stop playing earlier because the
'lag' was so bad I was dying over and over.

I installed it onto my Win 7 install, and the same area ran fine, with
    no slowdown at all.

Weird, but I'm not tempted to intall Fallout 3, see if that makes a
    difference to the framerate.

I was thinking of re-trying TQ, but w/some of the mods out
there. Namely Lilith/masteries (a combo of 2 mods, one redoes all the masteries, the other changes the game itself).

That's the only real downside of TQ, the levels are premade
and are exactly the same every time through. And no hardcore mode.
But it was definitely worth a once through, had a lot of fun, and
excellent visuals. Hope D3 has randomly generated levels (even if its
just a simulation of randomly generated levels like d2, good enough).
I'm sure I'll enjoy it at least once through even if it does, but such definitely adds to the replayability factor for me, I'll stay w/it a
    lot longer if it does.
