Starting to appear on Metacritic . http://www.metacritic.com/games/platforms/pc/risen?q=risen
so far the two there are not in English. There is signs of some ...
probably not English..copies on WiCKeD ! Bit Torrent (shock!)
    (NO I'm not!)
    'Only' 4.4 Gigs...smallish for a current release..Smells of Gothic 3 part 2
    ?

    Quotes:

    "80% Meristation..
Fun, large and with many things to do, Risen is a good game for medieval RPG lovers. It has its flaws, specially due to technical issues, but overall
it's a great experience, where every choice has its consequences. The great storyline and the different paths that we can follow are the strongest
    points of this game.
    @@@@

    80% SpazioGames..
While Gothic sails away to other developers, Piranha Bytes turns the tide
with this return to the origins of true RPG. Deep, polished, compelling,
Risen is an RPG for RPG true lovers. Some small glitches and a general lack
of accessibility make it step down a little bit on the score, but it's still THE game to have if you love RPGs."

Enthusiastic comments but a lowish 80% ???? At least theres no sign of

those horrendous Gothic release Bugs & not finished state.

Well remember most european reviewers are less 'generous' with their
scores. A score of 80+ there is probably as good (if not better in
some cases) than a 90+ in the US (mostly hype biased/advertisement
    induced/...)

I've always found PC Gamer's scores to be fairly aligned with my own
standards (i.e. somewhat less generous than mainstream US website
reviews). Not sure how many folks would say the same thing (i.e. I'm acknowledging that it could be purely coincidental that their rating
system has been relatively in sync with my opinion for all these
years). Downside is by the time the magazine arrives, often I've
already bought the game. Aside from that, and maybe metascore, I tend
to put more value in user scores than critic scores.

PC Gamer? as in PC Gamer magazine US edition? yikes! so I guess you
also think that Spore is a 95 or so score game? lol

That hurts. I bought Spore because of that review. It was fun for a
while, but the repetitive game play (especially in the space portion)
    soon turned me off.

Actually I never bought Spore, or even gave it a second look. Honestly
if it were going for $3 right now there are other casual games on
Steam that would interest me more.

But, you bring up a fair point that I hadn't really thought of. It
may just be that I *think* PC Gamer is spot-on with my taste because I habitually ignore the reviews of games I'm uninterested in. Spore is
one of those that never made it through my filter -- most games that
are hyped as much as that one was have no choice but to suck. I've
found a negative correlation between game hype and how good it
actually is, a lot of the good ones seem to almost come out of
    nowhere.

So maybe the reason I feel a sense of congruence with the reviews from
PC Gamer is that their reviews of FPS action games (which is what I'm
most interested in) is most in line with mine. What is interesting
though, is that for the most part that has been true for as long as
I've been reading it (15 years or more?)
