    The only problem is that the User Manual links to version 8, not version 9. I have not found any accurate online reference guide to using the features in SilverFast SE version 9; aside, perhaps, from an eBook the company is selling on its website.
    3. Choose any of the two (or several) downloaded Silverfast 8 programs to be installed in a provided directory. After installation, select the other version to have it installed into the same directory as the earlier installed version. Then start the program with the provided Silverfast 8 desktop link - it will open the start page (assuming the scanner(s) are turned on) and have both scanners in the drop-down list to select from. After selection, the specific version of Silverfast 8 fitting to one of the scanners will start after the scanner unit is turned on.

    Thanks for the details. I use only silverfast 8 for both devices. I called support and they walked me through a similar sequence of steps as you list. But I cannot have both scanners on at the same time. So far only a couple of problems that were fixed by closing and reopening silverfast and turning the scanner off and on.
    Using the Program
    VueScan offers a deceptively simple interface, with a set of tabs and with fields to fill in on each tab. It's not always obvious how to find a given feature, however, or how to use it. When I pointed out that the Kodachrome option didn't seem to have any effect on my scans of Kodachrome slides, for example, my contact at VueScan suggested that the option is better ignored in favor of a different setting altogether. One measure of the shortcomings of the User Guide is that Hamrick Software includes a link to a third-party book on its website, calling it the "missing manual" for VueScan users.
